Privacy Policy
Sidetrack ("we") makes an app that shows what your small circle of friends is listening to. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have.
What we collect
- Your account. When you sign in with Apple we receive an anonymous Apple user identifier and, the first time only, your first name if you choose to share it. We don't ask Apple for your email address.
- Your listening. When you connect Apple Music, the app gives our server an Apple Music user token. Our server uses it to read your recently played songs (song, artist, artwork link and roughly when you played it) about once a minute while live listening is on. We store this so your circle can see it.
- Your circle. Who is in your circle, invites you create or accept, requests, people you've hidden your listening from, and people you've removed (kept briefly so you can undo).
- Your settings. Live listening on/paused/off and until when, and songs you saved for later.
- Your age band. The age check uses Apple's Declared Age Range. We keep only the band (under 13, 13–17, 18+ or unknown) on your device. We never ask for or store your birthday.
We don't collect your location, contacts, photos, email address, advertising identifiers or analytics. Contact matching, if it ships, will run on your phone and upload nothing.
How we use it
Only to run Sidetrack: to show your listening to the people in your circle, to show you theirs, and to keep your account and settings. We don't sell your data, use it for advertising, or track you across other apps and websites.
Who can see it
- Your circle (up to 25 people you've both agreed to) sees what you're playing while sharing is on, unless you've hidden your listening from them. Pausing or turning off sharing stops this.
- Nobody else. There are no public profiles or public counts.
- Our service providers: Supabase (database, sign-in and server functions, hosted in the United States) and Apple (Sign in with Apple, Apple Music). They process data on our behalf.
How long we keep it
Account and circle data are kept while your account exists. Listening history is kept until you delete your account. When you delete your account we delete your data within 30 days, except where the law requires us to keep it.
Your choices
- Pause or turn off live listening at any time (You → Sharing).
- Hide your listening from anyone, or remove them from your circle.
- Disconnect Apple Music in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Media & Apple Music.
- Delete your account in Settings, or email us to have it deleted.
- Ask for a copy of your data, or for corrections, by emailing hello@sidetrack.link.
Children
Sidetrack is not for children under 13. The age check at sign-up blocks under-13s. Teens aged 13–17 get stricter sharing defaults. If you think a child under 13 has an account, contact us and we'll delete it.
Changes
We'll update this page and the date above when this policy changes, and tell you in the app if the change is significant.
